This workshop will provide an overview of the people that have influenced the ‘I-SPOT-DUDS’ method and introduce participants to each of the nine wastes in the context of modern workplaces. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to identify the nine types of wastes and will be provided with the skills needed to identify, remove and account for waste within their workplace.

BY THE END OF THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Define the terms ‘process waste’ and ‘continuous improvement’

  • Discuss the evolution of scientific management theory

  • Identify and account for nine different types of organisational process waste (I-SPOT-DUDS)

  • Critically analyse processes to recognise when process waste is occurring

  • Calculate the costs of process waste and process improvements

  • Design a process improvement initiative within their own workplace or home to eliminate process waste
